Choosing an institute of higher learning
“College is a refuge from hasty judgment.” - Robert Frost
Pursuit of higher education is the chief motivation behind admission to colleges and universities. The type of degree you want, to become a part of a certain field of work, dictates the type of college you choose. There are three specific categories of these institutes of higher learning.
Community Colleges – these offer two-year courses for students. You get associates degrees when you pass out and go to the next level.
Undergraduate Colleges and Universities – these offer four-year courses on various subjects. You can specialize in engineering or arts, or any other streams. You earn a bachelors degree after the completion of education.
Graduate Colleges and Universities – these institutes of higher learning offer masters degree to students with different specializations. The course term depends on the specialization. After masters, you can opt for the highest academic degree, the doctoral degree or PhD.
Technical or vocational colleges and universities are also there to provide students with higher education in a specific field. You also require additional educational degrees for branches like medicine or law. If you wish, you can also enroll in a same-sex college or find one that has affiliation to a certain religion.
